Natural Gas Garage Heaters
In neighborhoods where natural gas is already a readily available source of heat, it becomes an obvious solution for heating the garage or basement. This is a cozy heat, and the units are very efficient at converting the gas to usable heat. The gas fuel burns in the heat exchanger, where it produces heat which is distributed throughout the area. Distribution is usually done by an electric fan mounted within the unit. These units last for many years, resisting corrosion. Since there are so few moving parts, these heaters are usually low maintenance. There is a wide variety of sizes available to heat any size garage or basement, from a single car garage up to a 2,500 square foot workspace. During the summer, the fan of the heater can be used to circulate air in the area and help cool the space.
One thing customers enjoy most about natural gas is that it's always on. Unlike power lines, telephone lines and other above ground supplies, weather and other events rarely interrupt the supply of gas from the homes it serves. As with any type of garage heater or space heater, the key to safety is to have the unit installed properly and be careful about the things placed around or near the heater. Choose a location where the heat can penetrate the space freely, but is out of the way of people coming and going. Never use the area where the heater is kept to store cleaning rags, tarps, lawn chemicals, pesticides, discarded clothing or other fire hazards. Keeping the area tidy not only helps reduce the risk of fire, it also helps the heated air circulate more freely, helping to warm the area with less gas.
